A Re-Introduction To My World

I am participating in Stephen Tremp's Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest. Which is weird since I never really introduced myself once or a first time. But that is merely a matter of semantics now...let's move on.

Preface~

I am going to eschew delving into my personal stuff and focus on re-introducing my blog. However, here is this much...I am a 32 year corporate man who is striving to make more time for writing and photography. To that end I admire all the sites I follow that pertain to both those talents. Now on to the show!

I was born a poor black child...oh wait, that one's taken already...damn, so is "Call me Ishmael".  Well I can always take the tried and true "12 Step" approach...Hi, I'm Chuck and I'm a blogger.

I started this caravan of weirdness on January 16th, 2010 with this post following the earthquake in Haiti. I was not sure where I was going to go with this new blogging experience but it had begun. The name for the site, Apocalypse Now, came to mind after giving some thought as to what I would call this creature. My brain wrapped itself around the Mayan 2012 hysteria and then immediately went to one of my favorite movies (as well as the first thing that always comes to my mind when I hear the word Apocalypse (capitalized or not)), Apocalypse Now was born...or maybe reborn.

As you might guess, any form of Apocalypse Now (AN) as a blog/site .com name, was taken long ago. Nothing usable with that name variation came to mind except what eventually ended up being the site address>>> apackalipsnow. Out of my warped mind came a jewel. At least I could still title the actual blog page with Apocalypse Now so some degree of normalcy could remain.

Now what to write about. Whoa Trigger...my mind was a runaway freight train on that thought. For lack of a better term I am "all over the place" when it comes to stringing two thoughts together. I blame this on 30 years of corporate business structure that had me keep a rather large amount of "plates" spinning at all times...with the occasional WTF crisis thrown in just to test the nerves. So my thinking was less linear and more three-dimensional...all the time. Elevators and escalators. Chutes and ladders. You get the idea. Still what to write about?

Since I am well past the 100-word mark in this post there is no sense stopping...we are going for broke and breaking a big blogfest general rule. Sorry, I type like I talk. Long-winded and somewhat repetitive. This also comes from a work environment where at times it seems like I would have better luck training monkeys...or my dogs. At least when they don't follow direction I know it is because they literally don't understand a fucking word I am saying. I digress.

I knew from the beginning of this blog that any straight line theme would eventually take a detour or complete derailment. Not sure how or why this would happen (other than items above previously noted). So I dove in with a political and current hot topic, the Haitian earthquake disaster. My first post. I think it is still some of my finest work to date. If you have not read it please take a minute and check it out. It is still relevant.

Here are a few other early offerings that saw little of the light of day, that I still enjoy reading:

Taco Bell Diet

Reality TV

Diet Coke

Charmin Toilet Paper

Maybe you have a demented uncle you could point this way to keep him occupied.

Not having any readers or as I came to understand them, Followers, I continued on with some witty, comedic and completely random posts on various topics I christened "Today's Apocalypse Signs". That is how I pre-titled each blog post until the recent failure of the Apocalypse to actually occur.  In addition to being Apocalypse signs they were also evidence of how far off center our society had gotten...and some damn funny acts too!

A funny thing happened after I started gaining some small degree of following...I began reading the sites of my followers. I knew very little of blogging etiquette but was a decent enough guy to understand reciprocation. Sex taught me that! So little by little I saw what others were writing and posting.  I found funny sites, photographers, writers, and they began to influence my thinking and creative process.

Fast forward through a couple A-Z Challenges and the gaining of many friendly supportive followers and we arrive at today.

I don't know where my direction will go now that the Mayan thing fizzled but due to all the friends I have made in the blogosphere, I will continue moving forward and hopefully to entertain and inform.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

The Mayans may have blown it, but I'm sure there's an apocalypse in the future somewhere - so rock on with your blog!
Sex is a good teacher. Visit often!
And I bet your dogs are better at following directions.

Applause, applause. And it's nice knowing you. I'm not doing this blogfest but I'm learning a lot about people I thought I already knew.
Peace

I'm sure it won't take long before another apocolyptic event is on the horizon.

And I first read your post to say you were a 32 year old man and was like...that's odd, I had him pegged as slightly older than that. ;)

Hi Chuck .. interesting you started out without knowing what to do - but great you were able to find us lot ..

There'll be plenty more apocalypses or apackalipsnows ... fun having you around ..cheers Hilary

I hope this re-introduction takes you to 200 and beyond, Chuck. You have a great, fun blog, despite faulty Mayan predictions.

It's not that the Mayan thing fizzled; it was all about misdirection. While we were sitting around thinking about (and/or preparing for) the end of the world, the Mayans slipped in and stole our wallets. Bought a bunch of calendars with my credit card. Bet they think they're reeeeal funny, don't they?

But hey, it's neat to learn how AN got started and how it ended up as it is now. I look forward to many more informative, entertaining posts. Of course, unbridled craziness is welcome, too.

Very interesting. I am not sure that I could actually explain my blog. It is whatever is in my head at the moment. Sometimes that is politics. Sometimes that is my personal stuff. There are times I do that with the intent of it being a creative writing piece. Other times I am just throwing it out there. I am looking forward to the A-Z Challenge. It will force me to stick to a theme and be less wordy. Essentially... a HUGE challenge.

BTW, I like wordy, the fact that you don't stick to the rules, and that you tend to mix things up here.

I'm glad we escaped the last predicted apocalypse but I'm sure there'll be another one soon.

Stay tuned, like Alex, I believe there is an Apocolypse on it's way and it will be right on time. Whenever that may be.

And thanks for participating in the Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest!

baygirl: Yeah me too;))

Alex: Yeah I am going to keep on...the fun and friends have too good!

Manzanita: I am glad you are back in the game!!

Johanna: I WISH I was 32 again!!! I figured being a lawyer, you read more carefully :)

Hilary: I probably still won't have TRUE direction but I plan on going wherever the posting takes me. I am also glad to have found your site...my knowledge has increased just reading your posts.

Robyn: You are a true joy on your site. Your writing and wit are a great combination. Have fun!

Nate: Not much you can do about the calendars now. I am believing there will still be bouts of unbridled craziness here and there. Thanks!

Robin: We could be twins! And trust me, the last two years I tried very hard to do a theme for A-Z and it never worked! All just random stuff...at least last year I had the first two weeks done before it started.

Susan: If not...some religious zealots will come up with one!!

Nancy: I'm glad we crossed paths during this last A-Z. I enjoyed finding a fellow AIC appreciator and I am REALLY glad I found your book Mistaken...you know how much I liked it! Thanks for being a bloggy friend!

It's amazing how much you learn when you put yourself out there. I did the same thing when I started. Great to get to know you a little better. :)

Nice to meet you again! I just got back from your first post, I read it a long time ago and thought that I'd commented on it. I'm going to go back and see when I first commented here. I know it was a long time ago...
Keep it up Chuck!

Don't worry, there's always another apocalypse around the corner.

I like your freewheeling blog, Chuck. You never know what you're going to get!

I'm so glad you did this because I'm new here and this rocked! I was curious about the name and now I know and as GI Joe say, knowing is half the battle.

Chuck said...

Jessica: Thanks for coming by I know our blogs don't share the same themes but I enjoy your company.

Damyanti: You don't know how many times I have seen your name and meant to check out your site...of course you don't, I never made it there!! Well today is THE day and I will soon be there for a visit.

Pat: You have been tried and true for a long time my friend. I believe you came by within the first 45 days of my existence. The first are always the best. Not in a creepy way :) Thanks for the nice words.

Michelle: Your comment has had me pondering its meaning for 10 minutes. Funny is entertaining...right??

Nick: You are probably right...thanks for your support.

Elsie: Yes...it is now the other half of the battle you need to worry about, particularly if you visit very often ;) Thanks!

Any blog named after my favorite movie is alright by me. You do some unique, fun, and sometimes very relevant stuff. Not to say it's not all relevant, but I think you know what I mean.

HI, Chuck,

Good to meet you. Like the others have said there will surely be another apocalypse.

I try not to dwell on the ending, but on the beginning. Our world is changing... TOO much unrest, but there is always hope. WE live on a beautiful planet, I don't wish to be around to watch its destruction. I hope to be in my next life by then....

Lee: Yep know what you mean. Your site and its provocative topics have inspired me many a time. Thanks

Shannon: You are right and it could occur at any time. Sometimes I get moments of true inspiration to make statements like that!

Michael: Glad you stopped by. I am still trying to get to most of the sites on the blogfest so I am sure you will see me soon.

Monti: If that's the case you must have an odd definition of "wisdom" as I tend to call it rambling! Thanks for all you do!
