Funny how things go...
Today was 105 and baking! So after work I come home to my hot as hell living room and...ride my execise bike for 30 minutes! Now I am sweating but I am back in the coldest room of the house. My wife keeps the back room at 68-degrees (not that it ever really gets there in the summer) and it is relatively cooler than any other room.
I am here of course to bring forth this weeks offering of iPod Monday.
1. Green Day - Hitchin' A Ride (one of the first songs I heard from this bands double platinum Nimrod CD. Time Of Your Life is an anthem for the ages. Love the American Idiot album!)
2. Peter Frampton - Do You Feel (Like We Do) - LIVE! (from one of the best selling albums of all time (Frampton Comes Alive) his best song.) It's a 14 minute concert staple so make some time later to enjoy it all.
3. Brian May - Driven By You (former Queen guitarist out on his own and jamming. Not many people I know have heard his solo music. Worth a listen.) Oh yeah...and how many rockers are astrophysicists! His history is rather fascinating so click the link if you don't know it.
4. Peter Gabriel - Digging In The Dirt (I absolutely love this song and listened to endlessly when it first came out. The ex-Genesis frontman created some amazing music on his own. Steam is one of my other favorites.) Guaranteed to be one of the weirder videos of its time.
5. Our Lady Peace - Clumsy (I like this song as much as their more famous Superman Is Dead. I still enjoy a good listen to their stuff from time to time.)
Bonus: Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life, Live) Excellent...will give you the chills...
Did ya learn something new? Any thoughts on any of these artists?

Today's Apocalypse Sign: The Olympics Weekend Graphs
Yes it is hot. I have now developed a talent for walking outside and instantly telling you if it is 100-degrees or hotter. I never wanted THAT talent! Today was stiflingly hot.
Fortuantely for you I have the coolest graphs this week.
Sit back and enjoy...

Today's Apocalypse Sign: A Breach Of Maritime Etiquette
The saga continues....
After a delicious dinner, several Belikins, and the ongoing hypnotic boat ride away from the city lights, I stuck iPod buds in my ears and sang my ass off...knowing I was fully drowned out by the throbbing twin diesels down below. Facing the rear of the boat, in an alcoholic haze, I came to full grips with the term "fade to black". For what seemed like forever (several of the group came and went during this time) I was rockin' out and firmly fixated on watching the last shard of light from the city...disappear. With an overcast sky and no moon, it was quite a metamorphosis to go from the dimensional space where light existed, to the deepest black known. If all the boat lights had been off it would have been...nothing. I was so captivated I forgot completely about the unwanted effects of mass quantities of alcohol and a moving/rocking/bobbing boat. Fortunately that had nothing to do with me.
My wife on the other hand, even with the scopolamine patch we were wearing, chose to have a good time by mixing rum punch, rum and coke, and beer. She forgot the old adage, "beer before liquor, never sicker". Bad move there. When I had spent enough time jammin' on deck and saw that most everyone had left for their rooms, I (literally like a drunken sailor) pinballed off everything on deck and down the hallway to our room...at the very front of the boat. Once there I was slammed to the wall upon entering the door and flung to the bed...where I proceeded to laugh my ass off at nothing in particular.
Fun time was about to end. I opened the bathroom door and in this little closet of a room my wife was on the floor revisiting dinner and possibly lunch. Thankfully I came in at the end and was able to help her and the friendly wastebasket to the bed. That lasted less than 5 minutes before she asked me to grab the pillow and blanket and take her and them up on deck. I told her I needed the bathroom first and by the time I came out she was already gone with the blanket and pillow. Our stories somewhat differ at this point as to what happened next.
I believe I immediately wove my back up the hallway and onto the deck where she was passed out on one of the bench/table assemblies along the rail and I fell in to the other bench and dozed off myself for an hour or so.
She believes I didn't come back on deck for quite some time (the "hour" she believes was not really possible). During that time she proceeded to redecorate the side of the boat (a serious breach of maritime etiquette) and wail my name to help her...in vain as it appears.
Hey only the sea gods know what really happened. I did end up passing out on the deck bench for about an hour...as the boat powered full speed ever further from civilization. My wife did have to ask one of the deck hands to wash off the side of the boat in the morning so part of her story is true.
Breakfast the next morning was served promptly at 7 and to my wifes credit she was up and eating ready for a full day of diving. I hung out with a couple of the other non-divers as the weather was rainy and a little choppy for snorkling. Read a book on my Kindle and generally recovered from my beer-drinking the night before.
The divers had the opportunity to do 4 dives during the day and then a night dive after dinner. My wife did them all. Here are a few shots from the day.
More to come....

Today's Apocalypse SIgn: The Heat Of Summer And iPod Monday
The heat of the summer is upon us. Saturday saw a record 107 for that date and I think my living room melted a little.
Today was only 97 or so and I was in the cool A/C of work all day. Since this was one of the calmer workday Mondays, I think the shuffled iPod Monday music below fit the bill nicely. Almost fell asleep while I was listening.
Give a listen and then leave your thoughts, and maybe even some of YOUR memories of the older tunes, in the comments.
Rock on...
1. Metallica - Hero Of The Day (slow and melodic then hard and rockin'. One of their best off the fantastic Load album.)
2.Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River (CCR had what seemed like an endless supply of great music. This is one of the best.)
3. Van Halen - Ice Cream Man (I dare you figure out some the types of ice cream he's selling.)
4. Eric Clapton - I Shot The Sheriff (Clapton's remake of this Bob Marley anthem seems to have been recorded a hundred different ways. I did see him do this live in a most Reggae style. Clapton is one of the best - guitarists and bluesmen.)
5. REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You (a song you cannot help singing along with...and at their concerts, EVERYBODY is singing it!.) Back in the early 80's I saw them in Houston at the Astrodome and drove with a friend to New Orleans immediately afterward and saw them in the Superdome the next night...ahhh, the stupidity and stamina of youth! Read more about this adventure RIGHT HERE. Full disclosure: I really went for BOC and Foghat!

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Instead...The Weekend Graphs!
Instead of:
I was going to try and describe the Dothrakian language but I really want to know how Khaleesi learned how to speak it.

Anyway, After accomplising two great things today (watching the final round of the British Open (for me) and the last 5 episodes of Game OF Thrones season two (for my wife)), figured I better get cracking on important stuff like this weekends educational and thought provoking graphs.
Without further ado, I present these 5 keys to the universe for your enjoyment...

Today's Apocalypse Sign: A Bit Of Belize
It is hard to imagine I have been back from vacation just about a month and I have posted nothing about my trip. Or about much of anything at all. So I figured it was time I truly set aside my procrastination and get something down before you all left for better reading...and you still may do that :)
I want to share a few photos and a link to my shutterfly site for more pictures and videos from the amazing week in the Carribean far from real land. I will begin my story...
----------------------------------------
Wait, that's not the beginning...
The early flight called for leaving home around 6:30AM. Leaving on Saturday always means light traffic. I of course, spent the entire time traveling to the airport (my wife drove) contemplating what I knew was something we had forgotten. This is something I cannot help doing because there is ALWAYS something forgotten, right? Funny, there WAS something forgotten and I have forgotten what it was! I could drive a therapist into therapy....
We arrived at the carpark and took the shuttle to the airport. Once arriving and entering the international terminal at DFW, we headed to the kiosks where you must check-in before you check your bags. This proved uneventful for my wife and I since she is skilled at working these babies, however, others there in our group were less fortunate.
The best underwater photographer of the group and his wife found the kiosk that would not accept their passports or somesuch and therefore would not issue them boarding passes. Of the four kiosks at any given time, 3 randomly were not working or were being stubborn. The tall lanky Nigerian fellow who was in charge of letting everyone know they had to check in using the kiosk before getting in line to check their bags...was little help. Our photo guy even got a little loud and irrate when the man did not immediately come to help him. The loud, "Hey!" that was uttered in the Nigerian's direction stopped sound for a moment as everyone looked. Still no help.
A couple others in our group (brothers) could only get one of their passports to work. A brother and sister going on the trip found out that when she canceled her flight from Lubbock to Dallas it also canceled her entire itinerary to Belize and back. She ended up having to book a whole new flight for a substantial rate and then worry about straightening it out with AA when she got back. My wife and I were in line to check bags and heard all the grumbling and bitching from everyone (in our group and strangers) trying to get their damn boarding passes. Finally, bags checked and we move on.
Now my wife has to smoke due to the trauma of the kiosks and the baggage line. She got an electronic cigarette for use on the plane but now she has to have the real thing. She goes outside and I head to the restroom. Once we rejoin, we move past the creepiest artsy thing I have ever seen. It is not the first time I have seen it but it is still creepy. Especially for an airport. Check it out...
Hands. Hundreds of glass hands. It is from floor to ceiling. The first shot of the bluish and zombie-looking ones are nearest the floor. Somehow how my Rorschach Test - oriented brain immediately sees the images of hands lost by all the people in a plane crash. I told you...creepy. My wife cannot even look at it. Just saying, this is not a time or place to do acid.
The flight was uneventful...thankfully. The landing on the little strip of jungle runway, a little more interesting. Fortunately we had 3 groups of religous youth (complete with chaperons) on board headed to who knows what third-world experience awaited them. The Orange shirted group, the Blue and the Green. I could easily spot the first ones that would be eaten/slaughtered/disappeared if this were an island horror movie.
We disembarked out on the tarmac...nothing resembling a terminal here. Just a straight line building with 4 or 5 "gates". Walking down the rolling ladder with two carryon bags after sitting for 3 hours...interesting. At least we got inside and cleared customs BEFORE...
It started to pour down rain!!! The entire flight of people are standing out in the narrowly covered exterior of the airport. I did not take any photos as the blowing wind and rain was too risky to have the camera out. Finally the shuttle van showed up and took us and our luggage to the Radisson Hotel for a three hour wait before boarding the boat. Plenty of time for a burger and several Belikin ice cold beers!
And we could see this huge yacht while we ate and drank...our upocoming home for a week.
This was no SS Minnow...this is the magnificant Sun Dancer II, Belize. One hundred and thirty eight feet of luxury accomodations. Twenty people and eight crew set sail right after dinner for a 5 hourtour ride straight out from land...
The story continues next time...

Today's Apocalypse Sign: iPod Monday Strikes Again
Time for another installment of iPod Monday. Where I post the five random songs I listen to on my iPod when I get home from work. Seems to be fairly popular and I enjoy it, so that to me is two thumbs up!
This week is widely varied as music goes so sit back and enjoy!
1. Foreigner - Urgent (was there a more sexually overtoned song on the radio in the late 70's...I think not. Although using lines from the song as pick-up lines with chicks was NOT a good idea!!)
2. Fear Factory - Shock (not for the faint of heart and not typically what I listen to but today it worked!) Quite frankly I am not sure where I got this CD from.
3. Joe Walsh - Ordinary Average Guy (big fan of the man who sounds like he has brain damage or is permanently drunk...solo or with the Eagles.) The James Gang Bang album is one of my favorites.
4. The Traveling Wilburys - Tweeter and The Monkey Man (if you are not familiar with this collaboration of musicans check it out here. Two points if you can name them all before Wiki. See group photo below)
5. Gun N' Roses - Estranged (Axel by any other is name is a (hold your tongue and say his name) Rose)
Have a great Monday and hope you enjoyed these selections. What's your favorite Foreigner or GNR song? Did you get all the Wilburys right? And where did the band name come from for the Wilburys?

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Time Out For The Weekend Graphs
Well another week has gone by and hell I just got to publishing the comments from last Sunday and Monday!!! WOW...apologies around. I guess in light of the current economy I should be glad business is so good, but it is CRAZY this summer. I am still working on my vacation pictures and story. Here is a link to a quick video I put together for my wife's dive shop group...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mgLjWJ5au4&feature=relmfu I know the first eel had Tourettes, I know it.
Anyway, enough about me more about entertaining you, because that's what it's all about (NOT the hokey-pokey). We'll start off with a brain-teaser graph and go from there!
Enjoy!

And since I missed most of last week...AGAIN...here is a bonus 6th entry...

See you tomorrow for iPod Monday....

Today's Apocalypse Sign: iPod Monday Returns
Just to refresh, when I get home from work on Monday I decompress by shuffling up 5 random songs on my iPod. I then have chosen to share them with you for your musical edification.
Here are this weeks jewels:
1. Bob Dylan - House Of The Rising Sun (I think I have literally every incarnation of this song that I could find. I first heard Frijid Pink perform this back int the 60's...timelessly good)
2. Little Feat - Texas Twister (this is a great "get your blood pumpin'" song. Love the guitar riffs!)
3. Dire Straits - The Bug ( Mark Knoffler had me at Sultans Of Swing, he's a pretty good picker)
4. Led Zeppelin - Dancing Days (you can never go wrong with Zeppelin!)
5. Blue Oyster Cult - Astronomy (I discovered this band back in the early 70's...still get no credit! I love this song and Metallica does a supreme cover)
Do you know all these songs? Find any you want to hear more of?

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Try This Soon!!
I know, I know, gone for two weeks and now 2 posts in one day. What is this crazy world coming to?
This will be brief. I just discovered what may possibly be the best cool drink on a hot summer afternoon. Here it is:
2 shots Mount Gay Rum (Barbados)
3 scoops No Sugar Added Blue Bell ice cream
Fill with Diet Coke
A Rum & Coke Float!! The best in adult entertainment for your mouth!
I had to have a second one just to make sure I wasn't dreamin'. This is really good
Enjoy!

Today's Apolcayse Sign: Whippin' Up An Easy One...Fourth Of July Weekend Graphs
Well, it's been a while. I have been so busy I have barely been able to read any of by favorite blogs let alone write a post. I have not completed the arduous task of culling through all 1800 vacation photos. And I have a extremely busy 7 week grind coming up. I feel like I am on Deadliest Catch...without the fishy smell, freezing weather, and ya know...the off-chance of dying at sea. But I am still here and will have Belize stories and pictures to share soon.
I did want to whip out a quick Weekend Graph post to honor the weird mid-week holiday that was July Fourth this year. Does anybody know when it last fell on a Wednesday??? And don't say seven years ago cause that is NOT the right answer!!
Please enjoy these snippets of humor...

What Happens Is the Middle Is Magic

Okay I looked it up...the last time July 4th fell on a Wednesday was 2007. Funny I don't remember it being that recent. I'll probably say that the next time too!
