Today's Apocalypse Sign: A Rescue For Your Sweet Tooth

My post a week or so ago on my In N Out Burger experience made me think that I ought to have an offsetting post in a somewhat healthier vein. To that end I would like to present you with a glorious find...or at least MY find.

Organic Agave Nectar by Honeytree

This product is available at Walmart and I suspect at a Whole Foods/Trader Joe's type store as well. The cost at Walmart is $5.36 for a 24.7oz bottle. You'll find it in the aisle with syrups, jams, jelly and peanut butter.

This stuff is awesome. The taste is sweet and different. Not overly, sickly sweet like a syrup but more like a version of honey. It goes well on toast, pancakes or waffles, cereal, ice cream, smoothies, coffee and tea...and probably more stuff I have not tried it on or in yet. The consistency of this product at room temperature is very thin. I can tell you that New York-style deli rye bread toasted and buttered then spread with this stuff is beyond delicious.

Here is something to try:
       -Kashii Vanilla Island cereal
       -Fresh sliced peaches
-Silk vanilla almond milk (sweetened or unsweetened)
-2 tablespoons of Honeytree Agave Nectar

This organic nectar can also be used in cooking as a substitute for corn syrup.

The low glycemic value keeps any "sugar spike" from occuring and there is only 60 calories in a tablespoon. It is made from organically grown agave and has no additives in it. It is probably one of the best sweeteners to use for your kids.

Next time instead of Aunt Jemima syrup try some Agave Nectar. You will be hooked!

If you have already used this or a similar product, please share your thoughts...

Now I feel better!

A Trader Joe's is opening near my house next month, right next to a Bass Pro Shop which probably has this stuff as well. But I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for it. I need something healthier to start off my day other than toast drenched in Nutella.

Pancakes? I put peanut butter on my pancakes - would it taste good with that?

Have you tried coconut oil instead of other oils? It has a health food value and is believed to help prevent Alzheimer's.

Nate, I suspect you're easy that way!! Check it out and report back.

Johanna: Yes I did leave a couple comments on your blog about this. It really is that good.

Chiz: I can see how with that traumatic brain injury you suffered at the hands of...ice, might affect your judgement down the road...and yes you do need to.

Alex: I have used it with almond butter and it is awesome...I suspect the same would be true of the mighty mashed peanut...and of course pancakes.

Monti: Funny you should mention coconut oil...I eat a tablespoon a day for some of those very reasons...and it helps with weight control too! I use no other oils...well maybe some almond oil.

Yum! It sounds pretty darn good! I'll try the cereal. I use the Silk vanilla instead of regular milk and it sounds like this stuff might spice it up a bit!

Hi Chuck - I only occasionally use jams jellies, honey .. but can quite see your enthusiasm - the organic nectar sounds an excellent alternative.

Cheers Hilary

Your the second person in a week to suggest this product to me. I suppose that means I have to give it a try. My SIL tells me I should be using it to sweeten my tea instead of the artificial stuff.

We'll see.

Pat: You will not be disappointed (hopefullY) I actually switched from Silk Soy Milk to Silk Almond Milk.

Hilary: It certainly is worth a try!

Rita: I love it in my coffee so I hope it works for you in your tea...no matter what, it is better than anything artificial!

Stephen: I recommend taking it out of the fridge and letting it get to room temp. It pours easier and I think tastes better than when it's cold.

Robyn: Just think...you could dip CHOCOLATE in it!! How great is that?

I use agave nectar. One of the big draws for me is that it doesn't solidify like honey does. It's always pourable with no work. Love peanut butter and agave nectar toast!

Shannon: Yeah me too...always pourable. I use almond butter but I am sure peanut would be just as delish! I knew I'd find someone who uses it!!
