Global Street Art

Time for the G-spot.

This post maybe somewhat off-track, but I wanted to share something I have found and been engrossed with for a couple years now. I resisted the urge to continue my HST saga and venturing into "Gonzo" for my G-post, but due to circumstances I decided to give you a break today.

Street Art, specifically Global Street Art.

It is a phenomenon that has arisen out of a combination of gang tagging and graffiti. These talents have evolved into an art form and the trend has spread around the world. There are some amazing and talented people out there with spray cans of paint.

These creations range from 3-D effects on flat walls and streets, to utilizing the building or wall features, to interacting with the surroundings (like the first one below). The reference of the man in the picture on the last shot shows how large some of these wall paintings are.

Some of this artwork is still in search of its artist. The website Global Street Art has posted numerous pictures of this work, in trying to find the artists. The art work is from all over the world - UK to China, Spain to Russia, Australia to Brazil. The guy that started this site had another blog I followed but when his passion for chasing this art form spread beyond our borders, he took the plunge and took on a new mission in life. Hence the Global Street Art site was born. I have their Facebook page followed so I get updates on all the new postings.

I want to share a few examples and if you are interested in more you can visit the page I have put up with more examples or you can click on the link above and go to the site for a large viewing and more about where these are found. I thought this was very cool stuff, and I enjoy sharing cool stuff with you...my friends.

This one is incredible. Chalk drawing on the street. Yes this is a flat drawing on the pavement!!

All pictures belong to their respective photographers and are found on the Global Street Art Facebook site with locations where the artwork was done

art has gone from swearing against a building to making art so wonderful that it is a shame to tear it down... great post to share this talented group.

Hi Chuck .. I love the Thomas the Tank engine one - it probably isn't .. but it's fun ...

And chalk art painting has been around London for a while ... I haven't been in London seeing it done, but they did a tv short on it .. as some of it is incredible.

Cheers Hilary

I would totally walk around that chalk one thinking it was real. Awesome stuff.

The double image of the guy is amazing! I've seen ones where it looks like a whole or a fountain that seem real.

Jeremy: Yes, marking on buildings and fixtures has certainly become more talent-laden.

Hilary: There are so many that are amazingly creative use of the structure or surroundings. I just enjoy looking at them.

PTM: That chalk one I have looked at for a long time. It is genius.

Alex: There is another one on their site that looks real 3-D...it is on a wall and it is a picture of a kid with his head stuck half up a hole.

Nancy: Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed them.

I do love me some good street art. I'd make some myself, but pencil drawings and mashed potato sculptures don't really lend themselves to the movement.

(On a related note, if you haven't seen it already, Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop is quite good.)

Sarah And Nate: Thanks for mentioning the same thing...I have to go check it out. Do you know the one on the page I made was actually artwork done in the dirt on the back door of a semi truck??

I'm always amazed what some people can do with a blank wall and some spray paint.

Yes, you're right, an artistic tendency which must be respected much and totally revolutionary. I love the examples you've proposed.

I'm soliciting work for an A-Z special edition of The Woven Tale Press and would love to use this post. Though I would switch some of the photos with the one you have on your dedicated Global art page.

You can see The Woven Tale Press here:

but instead of going to the submit page, please just email me your approval at sandratyler@me.com referencing this URL.
Thanks, Sandra
