Last night my wife and I joined another couple who are friends of ours for an evening at the Dallas Arboretum. The feature exhibit there for the last five months has been the artistry of
Dale Chihuly. A co-worker turned me on to this event as she has seen his work before in Phoenix and said the displays were really impressive. Since summer here in Texas is so swelteringly hot and humid I knew back in May that it would probably be October before I got there...day or night. We chose last night.
Arriving a litte after 6:30 and meeting our friends there for a light snack before the trekking began, I took some time to get all my camera/tripod/lens coordination all set up. The following are a few of the pictures I took. We did not even make it through half the exhibit in the 2 1/2 hours we had before the facility closed. I want to make another visit before the show ends on November 5th. Not sure if it will be another night visit or possibly a day trip if the conditions aren't too sunny.
Please enlarge these to fully appreciate. I have added some other photos in a page at the top of the site (Chihuly Photos).
Enjoy!

If there is ever an exhibit near where you live I would strongly advise you taking it in. Well worth it.
Anyone ever seen a Chihuly show? Are there any permanent Chihuly displays where you live?

I saw an exhibit of his several years ago. Amazing what he can do with glass.
Nighttime was a good choice - the photos are amazing!
I didn't think anyone outside of Seattle had ever heard of Chihuly. He has a wonderful glass museum here & a new garden at the Seattle Center. Plus his work is all over the place here. He's a crusty guy, but his work is beautiful & he's an excellent teacher.
Alex: And to think he hasn't blown glass in years due to an accident he had. He is more of a directing artist. Still, his vision is amazing.
Nancy: Yes and he has work on permanent display around the country. I will have his museum on my must-see list next time I am in Seattle.
Hi Chuck - how fascinating - I certainly had never come across Chihuly - so interesting to find out about him and his work - I'll need to have a closer look sometime.
When I visited Harvard in 1976 .. I went to see the glass flowers and botanical glass collection there .. these were exhibits made in the 1880s - 1930s by the Blaschka brothers .. here's the Wiki link - they have always bewitched me .. I'd love to see them again ..

I'll have to investigate further - and when I get back to the States definitely make sure I include one of Chihuly's exhibitions in my itinerary ...
Fascinating ... thanks so much - cheers Hilary
