The Weekend In Black And White

I had opportunity during my recent vacation to spend a bit of time (and over 350 photos) photographing hummingbirds. These tiny creatures move with astounding speed and quickness. It proved to be very challenging. Here are three of my favorites in B&W.

Those are amazing, Chuck. Thank God for digital, huh? Otherwise you would've spent a fortune on film.

Lovely photos. I've never seen a photo of a stationary humming-bird before.

Hilary: This required a lot of patience...me in the hot sun and the birds flitting in and out, enjoying the shade.

Alex: You got that right! Thanks.

Ma: That one is one of my favrites as well.

John: Thank you. I appreciate you stopping by.

Jeremy: Yes...Highway To The Danger Zone from Top Gun. They are very loud flyers for their size.

Dragonstar: I am glad you enjoyed them.

Milo: They are some of the most challenging things to photograph.

Scudds: Thanks and you have a great weekend too!

Hans: I thought they were a good too.

I love hummingbirds! And also how diverse they are. I've gotten photos of two different kinds around here. We just put out our first hummingbird feeder, so I hope to see some on my back porch.

Great photos! The entire time I was trying to get photos, they never sat still like that one in the first photo. Crazy!

I had to take a bunch as I mentioned but many times even with a shutter speed of 1/640th of a second, I could not freeze their wings. Sometimes I got lucky. Since most action can be frozen at 1/250th...I find that amazing.

Great photos Chuck! I love hummingbirds. I like to watch them have their little safe and sane aerial dogfights over turf.

Pat: Thanks. There were two of them that could not be on the same side of the feeder. It was quite amazing and amusing to watch them flitting from side to side trying to eat. And today I read on the internet about shooting hummingbirds...dumbass me never thought to use my flash! Must have been vacation brain!!
