Her blog shows 58,884 followers. Blogger has a limit on followers and I know that because some people commented a year ago that they could not "join" her site. I doubt she can even read all the comments she gets. I found out just now that Blogger has a limit on comments. Crazy, huh? Who among us would even believe that number existed.
She posted May 9th for the first time in almost TWO YEARS! She had 27 comments in the first 10 minutes. At 5:56 PM on May 9th...less that 12 hours after her post...Allie had reached the maximum amount of comments allowed - 5000. It took me quite a while to figure out why I couldn't get the comment box to come up. Then I scrolled down to where it should have been, only to read:
Reached maximum number of comments. No more comments can be posted.
I was pissed I couldn't say my peace/piece but at the same time, a little glad I wouldn't waste the time writing what I wanted to and knowing she would probably never read it. (Selfish, I know)
The link on her site name above, links to this new post-out-of-the-blue. It is an amazing post. It is amazing illustration. Though the subject matter may not apply directly to you, it is more than possible you know someone to whom it does apply. Please go read it now (actually read the link below first). Give yourself at least 10 minutes to do this. You won't regret it.
I did want to tell her some things...I have truly missed her posts. I checked my reader every time I log in to see if her site was still up or I missed something. I thought because of the book deal she got, that she was no longer able or had time to keep up with it. I wanted to let her know that, that she was missed. I wanted to let her know she mattered to people who have never even met her...I'd say close to 59,000!! Mostly I wanted her to know I appreciated what she wrote.
***Here is her last post prior to this, from 5/5/2011. The Adventure. I recommend reading this FIRST!!
I hope it is not another two years.

Hi, Chuck!
I used the link and read Allie's post - I can sort of understand her comments about depression; how she thought herself unentitled to be feeling depressed without any real reason.
It put into context some of the 'depression' I've experienced lately: the strain of supporting my daughter through her loss of sight following irreparable damage to her retinas, dealing with the deteriorating medical issues facing my brother suffering Alzheimers, helping my husband cope with the death of his father, watching my son teeter around the brink of depression over being unemployed, struggling to support my daughter caught up in a legal case pursued by 'ambulance-chasing' lawyers, whilst juggling with all the things I'd wanted to do with my life and now realising the best years are gone, plus the added insult from Mother Nature with her own heap of depression-inducing hormones kicking in as the menopause strikes (dear Lord, you men have it so easy!)...... and that's just the last 18 months!
Oh well, life goes on, so they say!
Meanwhile, writing from the 'West Wing'(Chuck, you'll get that joke!)
I can sympathise with those who have disappeared down the rabbit-hole of depression; my solution was/is to keep busy - and to keep my Faith!
If I got that many comments, I'd go into hiding for a couple years as well. A limit on followers and comments? That's not fair.
I use her post on "The Alot" every year with my students, and I even bought the Tshirt. Great site!
I am glad I took the time to read both posts. I am going to find my piece of corn now. I will check under teh couch first.
Sue: I like the name West Wing for your sanctuary! I am sorry to hear all your trials and tribulations. The concept of depression is foreign to me in that I have never been around a clinically depressed individual. Reading her post was really enlightening.
Alex: She is a blogging super star! And from her post and the last one from 2011, I am guessing it was not a planned absence.
Milo: Very cool. I wish I could find out something about the book she was publishing. I really love her site.
PTM: You have no time for that! You got a baby to get ready for :)
I was also so excited. She's one of the first blogs I ever read. She is such an inspiration. So glad that she is back! I hope for good!
Hugs!
Valerie

Happy to hear you already have a plan for next year. A prepared man is a wise man.
Your picture is delightful, thanks to your wife. Hahaha
Geez, for my first year blogging. I thought they must have limited the number of followers to under 10.
Anyway, I totally agree about Hyperbole and a Half. Pure genius...
I'm back from reading her latest posts. It's good to know she is okay. She is a genius...
Valerie: Yes I found her early on in both our blogging careers by checking the Blogs Of Note (where I got my first few blogs to follow). I was hooked from the beginning and then she just exploded. Great stuff.
Manzanita: Even though this comment is on the wrong post it is still nice of you! Just kidding :)
Pat: Yeah that is what I thought too!! Glad you read her stuff, she is so awesome.
