Today's Apocalypse Sign: As I Embark On The A-Z Challenge...

Well fortunately today is not the letter P or I would have had to go off on procrastination. I have been planning since this was first announced to get plenty of pre-posts done so I wouldn't get behind. This way calm rational thought would prevail...NOT!

The day is here and I have exactly ONE post ready! This one. Three or four are on the drawing board but now any chaos during the month could derail me in a moment. I feel like I am disarming a bomb and have no time to spare. Shit, I hate that!

Okay, off we go....

Today is April first...

Only fitting that A is for All Fools Day (April Fools Day in some countries). The link has some great pranks from all over the globe.

Winter is over...spring is here and the first of April brings its tradition of pranks and tricks to fool and amuse. This tradition has been practiced for over 500 years. While the practice of fooling people in some way started with a spat over when the year actually began (April 1st vs January 1st) many cultures had their fun with the first day of April.

The Romans had Hilaria, the Hindu...Holi, the Jews...Purim. This time of year brought out the festive nature in everyone. Even the French (yes the French) had their weenie version of the trickster day called Poisson d'Avril or the "April Fish". School kids would tape a picture of a fish on the back of a classmate and cry out, "Poisson d'Avril!" when the trick was discovered. Meh, kinda Vichy lame.

Today what passes for April Fools jokes or pranks is now high art.  This video below while entertaining and to the uneducated is amazing, it is one of the greatest pranks ever pulled by the BBC. See if you recognize the announcer in the clip. Enjoy the foolishness:

Somebody fools me today I'm gonna punch 'em in the nose...they won't see that coming! Happy April Fools everyone.

Maybe by the time I get to p, I will have managed to get a post or two ahead of myself.

Love the video. It made me tear up because why shouldn't they be able to fly. They are birds after all. I would have liked to see them lounging on the beach at the end.

I love pranks so the only one who would get punched is the idiot who puts fish on my back. They would deserve it just for being lame.

I like your attitude. A know a lot of people who deserve a punchin the face. Think I'll go down to Stabucks and punch that barista who gives me a hard time right now. But first I'll get my coffee.

Ok this is an awesome post because I think I found my first big april fools joke directed at the star wars community. Time will tell whether this is real or not. It was announced yesterday that the Star Wars Holiday Special is being released on Limited Edition Blu Ray. If you know anything about this you know that Lucas has always loathed the special. So to see it being released on Blu Ray is a little of a stretch.

ahhh april fools day

Great A-Z start. I love the tidbit about Poisson d'Avril--hilarious.

I'm like you--I have exactly two posts written, and one of them was for today.

Flying penguins - that's funny.

Yes, but if the apocalypse is coming, why plan ahead? Write the posts as needed, and take advantage of the daylight while we still have light... and days.

Oh, and if you ever need to know how to survive the robopocalypse, or are interested in Christmas carols for the zombie apocalypse, check out my archives.

Now if you don't mind, I have to go prune my spaghetti tree.

Alex J Cavanaugh is highlighting your blog today. And sometimes I wonder if trying to keep up with over a thousand bloggers in one month isn't a bit of an April fools joke. :D

Speaking of procrastination, I'm saving my April Fool's jokes for tomorrow.

That was great! Spending the day with ten-year-olds meant a lot of "your shoes are untied" sorts of pranks. Not nearly as exciting as penguins flying to warmer climes!

I'd probably look like that if I could fly...
I'm thinking that both species are pretty much earthbound.

Ella: A pet penguin would be a real ice breaker!

Sheila: Thanks for stopping and hope to see you again. The challenege will keep me busy.

Pat: That made me laugh. I would look about the same.
