Today's Apocalypse Sign: Mad Skills...Just Watch

Just "Tooling" around on youtube after work listening to some of my favorite Tool music to kinda wind down the day...I stumble across this young lady with mad drumming skills. I must have watched 15 different videos of Meytal Cohen demonstrating her talents. I was blown away! Twenty seven years old and she could fill in for the drummer in any of these bands. Her goal is to replace any one of them. Not your average career path for a Jewish girl.

I am not a musician but I am an appreciator of music and musical ability. I perceive the drums to be a fairly skillful endeavor. Seriously, moving all four appendages in different rhythm at the same time seems difficult. I believe Meytal to be hard-core good. That double-pedal bass drum takes some talent. AND she covers some of my favorite music! All of her has her logo and the cymbals were hand made in Turkey. I watched it being done on Modern Marvels one time...they are not cheap.

Some of this music may not be for all of you (Alex, I have no doubt you will dig all these.) Some is a little R-rated...the Disturbed song is quite intense (Robyn cover your ears). And I might add...left me a little flushed after her stunning performance. Take some time and watch some Mad Skills...

This is one of my favorite songs and is a Tool classic. I listen to this every day. She kicks it!

This is a video she put together with a couple other girls for America's Got Talent audition. She didn't get picked for the show but she ended up in a video with Beyonce. Sounds like Apocalyptica...only hotter.

This is one of my favorite Foo Fighters songs and she nails it!

Disturbed is well...disturbing and has some mommy issues, but this is their flagship song and Meytal is stellar! This is the full uncut version so use headphones!

And if you want to see a really great performance, go to youtube and search for her covering Cowboys From Hell by Pantera...it could bring Dime Bag back. Great skill and a look that would go good with Pantera!

Enjoy!

She's good! She should've tried out for the position when Dream Theater was looking for a new drummer. Of course, the ones they turned down were pretty damn amazing as well.

Alex: She does a cover of Dream Theater's Pull Me Under that is good as well. The thing I like the most about her style is she makes it look so effortless. All the Tool songs she does are fairly intricate pieces of music overall. She has some vids with some really fast drumming and compared to some other cover vids I checked out, it doesn't even look like she's trying hard. I had to subscribe to her feed so I can watch her new videos as they come out.

Wow. She does my people proud. I'm glad someone snagged her for a Beyonce video rather than America's Got Talent. She's clearly going to keep getting bigger and better.

Robyn: I just get mesmerised watching her play so effortlessly. I hope so gets what she wants.

Wow! She is great (and cute). I liked the trio with the two electric violins. Thanks for posting these videos.

Pat: Besides looking good I just enjoy how easy she makes playing some of these tough songs. I have watched some other videos of guys struggling to keep up and flailing all over while they sweat up a storm...Meytal just cruises.
