With everyone squarely focused on hurricane Sandy, I give you a brief musical interlude (if you still have power). Stay safe all my blogger buddies close to the coast...and the Big Apple.
1. Rob Zombie - Dragula (this has been my favorite Halloween party song for years. There really is none better...Living Dead Girl is a close second however.)
2. The Doors - Crawling King Snake (I love the Doors. Let's just say I spent a week one weekend during the 80's deeply immersed in an altered states experience of every Doors album. It was phenom.)
3. Nirvana - Polly (the greatest two opening lyric lines. Kurt, we hardly knew ye bro. I love the unplugged 1994 album. You'll see a young Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters founder)backing vocals from the drum kit. Give it a listen when you have time.)
4. Jimmy Buffet - Fins (okay, finally something for the Parrot-heads out there. There is nothing better in Cozumel than an afternoon on the beachfront of the Margaritaville bar listening to Buffet. Raise your fins!)
5. Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand ("Oh the mighty arms of Atlas" for sure. This song is from a closet favorite Zep album of mine - Presence. I just wore it out back in the mid-70's when it was released. All four members were the best at their craft. Page and Bonham were peerless. RIP Bonzo. Timeless music.)
Any likes or dislikes here? Any Parrot-heads? Most importantly...any Doors fans? Zeppelin history on me...I had tickets to their show in Ohio in October of 1980 (could not get tickets to their 77 show) and John Bonham died about month before the show. So tragic. Like a dumbass I sent the tickets back for a refund. Bye bye collectors item!

Today's Apocalypse Sign: The Weekend Graphs To End October
Okay, gotta good grouping for you today. Some fun, some thinkers, some useful and all meant to entertain and amuse.
Please enjoy with your own music soundtrack...
How long can a zombie show last??? As long as it wants!

I think the cost of medical care went up significantly after the advent of WebMD.

If you have ever had that "boot to the throat" feeling at work...now you know why!

I don't know about you but I NEED this!!!

Maslow is one of my favorite deep thinking dudes...Here is your Halloween treat, no trick!!

Today's Apocalypse Sign: The Weekend In Black And White
This is another shot taken at the Dallas Arboretum last week. The waterfalls they have on the property are such great settings for a dramatic photo.

Today's Apocalypse Sign: iPod Monday
Today was interesting. Besides the fact that it was a humid 87 out for the 22 of October...the wind was howling from the south and threatening rain all day. Then Saturday the high is supposed to be 56. Go figure.
The iPod cranked out a wicked array of tunes when I got home tonight and not of the relaxing variety...until the end. So now I'm kinda amped for the NFC North game tonight between the Lions and Bears. Whatever helps the Packers is the outcome I am rooting for.
So sit back and experience the 5 tracks below and let me know what you think or know about any of the bands/performers.
Rock it!
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Aeroplane (One of the lesser known songs released in March of 96. It remains one of my favorites. The boys were inducted into the Rock n Roll HOF this year.) A little R-rated on some of the lyrics.
2. Rage Against The Machine - Down Rodeo (This song has had tons of airplay and was never nominated for any awards. It always makes me think of the video game Grand Theft Auto which I have curiously never played...or seen played.)
3. Live - Lightning Crashes (Their hit song from the 1994 release Throwing Copper. The whole album is really good. Give it a listen if this is new to you.)
4. Ted Nugent - Great White Buffalo (I remember listening to the Amboy Dukes when I was a kid and Nugent has never stopped rockin' since. The 70's were his heyday but his music gets any party going still today. At 64 he is still going strong.)
5. Eric Clapton - Layla (I have been listening to all incarnations of Clapton as long as I have been listening to music. He is a great guitarist the list of songs he has is huge. The acoustic version of Layla is one of my all time favorites.)
Well there you have it...the iPod Shuffle for this Monday. Wide variety of music and styles. Thoughts?

One more way to survive in the potential zombie apocalypse

But don't you still want to own one anyway??

Makes FB even more depressing

Today's Apocalypse Sign: The Weekend In Black And White
When at the Chihuly Exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum this past Tuesday, I decided to take some Black And White shots even though I was there at night. This shot was one of the best. I am sure you will see more from this trip.

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Shooting Chihuly Nights
Last night my wife and I joined another couple who are friends of ours for an evening at the Dallas Arboretum. The feature exhibit there for the last five months has been the artistry of Dale Chihuly. A co-worker turned me on to this event as she has seen his work before in Phoenix and said the displays were really impressive. Since summer here in Texas is so swelteringly hot and humid I knew back in May that it would probably be October before I got there...day or night. We chose last night.
Arriving a litte after 6:30 and meeting our friends there for a light snack before the trekking began, I took some time to get all my camera/tripod/lens coordination all set up. The following are a few of the pictures I took. We did not even make it through half the exhibit in the 2 1/2 hours we had before the facility closed. I want to make another visit before the show ends on November 5th. Not sure if it will be another night visit or possibly a day trip if the conditions aren't too sunny.
Please enlarge these to fully appreciate. I have added some other photos in a page at the top of the site (Chihuly Photos).
Enjoy!
If there is ever an exhibit near where you live I would strongly advise you taking it in. Well worth it.
Anyone ever seen a Chihuly show? Are there any permanent Chihuly displays where you live?
