Well, the day is here. I am leaving this afternoon for the other side of the world. I am crossing the international date line and not looking back (unless there is a picture in it). Dallas to LAX is the first leg of the trip. I should have enough time in the LA airport to catch the Mavericks game before we catch Air Pacific for the 10 1/2 hour grind to Fiji. Go Mavs!
I have never flown over a large expanse of water for such a long period of time. On the one hand if there is trouble there may be a better chance of survival in the water but the down side to that is...sharks of course, and the fact you would be a millions miles from help (or they from you). The plus side is that there could be a Lost experience and really, isn't that why we all started watching that show. Following in the footsteps of John Locke I may have to pack an extra knife or two.
All goes well we will be in Fiji early Saturday morning and at Beqa resort by noon. Since this is a large group trip I have been elected to be the documentary person for the week. Pictures, video, audio the works. I think I will enjoy that! Bula!
As long as Ben doesn't move the frickin' island...
PS. After reading Pat Tillett's latest post on his blog I realize my frustration with being able to comment is not confined to me. Many of the blogs that I follow and have tried to comment on lately just will not let me do it. The comment format apparently has something to do with it. I cannot not even reply comment on my own blog! So to those of you that have been able to comment I have read and tried to respond but it would only show up as Anonymous Said: and I didn't allow that to go through. Too confusing and insulting. Hopefully this will be better when I get back.
No internet, phones, or TV where I am going so there will be no posts (except my pre-post for Sunday) until the 19th or 20th. Play nice while I am gone.

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Let The Games Begin!
The day is here and as usual I am totally under-prepared. I am having pre-Fiji trip anxiety about packing stuff, missing stuff, repeat. It is bad when both the husband and wife are last minute personalities.
Anyway, this isn't about that...it's about this>>>>>>
The Three Best Games!!!
As I am not an online gamer (otherwise I would be unemployed, stealing Internet from someone, and weigh 400 pounds stuck in an over-sized Barcalounger!) I have no real input on that genre. I liked Doom a lot until I got the immortal cheat code and once you use it the first time, it's like gaming crack. Then I got bored with it and never really got into any other online gaming.
My three are truly my favorites, so let's get started.
FOOSBALL
This game was my shining moment to use all that geometry stuff I learned in high school. I didn't get it right away but when I did, I was unbeatable. Drunk or sober or whatever never mattered. I learned a lot from a friend of mine who was a Vietnam vet and freaked most people out anyway with his demeanor. He and I were an unbeatable team. Money, drinks, other stuff (hey it was the 70's) we never, ever lost. The best challenges were us playing each other in singles or spotting any team a 50% lead. Straight up, never lost. This is one badass game. Side note: Loved to play this to Bob Seger's Get Out Of Denver played over and over on the juke box. Some one had to beat me to get it to stop. At nineteen I was a foosball God.
MONOPOLY
Monopoly is where I learned to be ruthless with money AND property. Nothing short of crushing my opponent and bleeding them dry was satisfactory. Family, friends...didn't matter. I was always the Dog playing piece and that's the way I played...dog on a bone. I remember those times fondly when at family gatherings, the relatives would always divert me in some way so they could start a game without me. That is true family power. I think I developed my negotiating ability through playing this game. Good times.
And finally (it's over already?) the last of my Big Three....
QUARTERS
First of all this original game is played with Jack Daniels Black, a quarter, and a shot glass. The players sit in a circle and take turns bouncing the quarter off the table and attempt to get it in the shot glass filled with Jack. If a player makes the quarter into the shot glass the player to his right drinks the shot, spits out the quarter and the player who made it goes again. If he succeeds in making the quarter three consecutive times, the game reverses and goes to the left...with the original shooter continuing until he misses. Any other version is sissified bullshit. No beer, no whiskey glasses, not a million rules that no one remembers after three shots...just skill and staying power. I have made more people puke playing this game than any person I know.
That's my story and thanks for playing.

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Weekend Reflections...On Reflections
Some times things happen when you are not even paying attention. And I really wasn't paying attention to anything but the camera when I was fooling around with the settings. An accidental reflection if you will. The monkey seems amused though.

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Close But No Cigar
I was out walking the dogs today and spied a couple plants all by their lonesome in my ditch. Had my new phone so I tried out the camera feature. Only it sucks that you have to use low res when emailing but it takes 3 mega-pixel pictures as a max.
Anyway, I titled these appropriately...
Yes, today is my birthday and I didn't even get to ride a subway drunk at 12:22AM. At least I am now old enough to know that no one is calling me to wake my dumbass up on the train! Wait, we don't have subways in Dallas.
Go Mavericks!
Seven days and I am gone to the land next to the land down under...I will still say g'day mates!
I'm rambling so I should go now...
Have a great weekend!
