Today's Apocalypse Sign: Polyester Is The New Silk
I know for many people my age and close to my age or anyone who was growing up in the 70's, polyester brings back the visions of disco and shiny pants that made music when you walked. (Much like blowing on a wax paper wrapped comb as a musical instrument.) I know many people who will not be caught dead in polyester or claim to get some affliction should they accidentally put on anything with more than 10% polyester content.
I am here to proudly tell you two things: my entire work wardrobe is 95% polyester (for those who may be confused...this means 95% of my wardrobe is 100% polyester and not what you were thinking.) AND the polo shirts I found at WalMart are 100% percent polyester and quite badass.
In addition to the shirts being 100% polyester, there are two more things: they have a dri-wick feature to you cool AND they feel just like a couple silk shirts I own. I never wear the silk shirts. Dog claws snag an $80 silk shirt I'd be pissed...dog snags a $12 polyester shirt, I just go to WalMart and by another one!
The best thing about polyester nowadays (does that make one sound Old, saying that?) is that it does not fade!! I have had some great cotton shirts and pants in the past that after 4 or 5 washings the blacks were turning grey and the reds were morphing to pink. The vibrance of these shirts I have now doesn't change...AND, the super best thing>>>>
They do not shrink! Hot water, too high a dryer setting, nothing affects the size. Only one drawback, and this is mostly on the pants...if you get a pair with a hard crease it is a bitch to get out. I had to take mine to the dry cleaner and have them pressed to get the factory creases out. I'm talking about the sideways creases you don't want.
For those who have a WalMart near you I recommend you try the GEORGE brand of polo 100% polyester shirt. They come in yellow, orange, purple, black, red, dark-bright-light blues. I got one of every color (about 12). For $12.97 a shirt you cannot beat it.

So the next time you need a cheap, cool, bright polo shirt...I strongly recommend the George brand. It is it not your dad's polyester.

Today's Apocalyse Sign: Belize Recap Part Tois, Gracias
Sorry for the delay and I don't blame you if you lost interest weeks ago, but here is the next installment of my Belize trip. At least it's not long!
And I must clear something up for Hootin' Anni, I was not on a cruise. This was a 138-foot long diving live-aboard boat. Holding only 20 paying travelers and 8 crew.

Yes I am multi-linguistic...basic English, hacked French, and butchered Spanish...sometimes all three at once!
Okay so part three of my Belize adventure will comprise the middle part of the week as one unit and then a few more pictures, okay? Part four will deal with the return to land and departure. That will wrap this saga up and we can all move on.
On Monday the weather finally broke and we had partly cloudy skies for pretty much the rest of the trip until we got back to the dock. The eating/diving schedule was the same every day. Since diving requires a certain amount of "surface time" to off-gas nitrogen buildup, the routine has to be pretty much the same. So the typical "schedule" for the next 5 days, which was marked by the clanging of a large bell, was as follows:
7AM Breakfast. Chef prepared eggs, omelette's, bacon, sausage, waffles, etc. Excellent food.
7:45AM First bell signaling the preparation for the first dive of the day, in the water by 8AM
9AM Most divers have returned and this varies based on oxygen consumption. My wife is usually the last one up and has the most air left, for a smoker...go figure. She is a calm diver.
9AM -10AM A snack of some kind is served: fresh chocolate chip cookies, fresh tropical fruit, muffins, etc.
10:15AM The bell sounds for the next dive and most everyone is in the water by 10:30.
11:30ish All divers are back on board and preparing for lunch which varies from full course layout of tacos and tostadas to fresh fish.
12:45 The bell for the afternoon dive sounds and everyone who is diving is in the water by 1 or so.
2 - 2:30PM All divers back up and another snack has been prepared by the cooks.
3:30PM The bell sounds for the last afternoon dive and those with the energy suit up and tumble in the water
4:30PM The divers are back on board and showering off readying for dinner. Time for wind-down and general conversation. Those that are not night diving begin drinking. I of course drank anytime I wanted.
Dinner was usually served around 6PM and then an hour or so later (once it was good and dark) the night dive began. There are many marine animals and fish that do their thing after dark. With that said underwater flashlights are a requirement and photography gets a little trickier. If your flash is not set right you get a nice picture that could pass for the abyss...or the surface of the sun.
Once the divers return to the boat about an hour later we are heading close to the 9 o'clock hour and activities vary from small groups drinking and talking to another group watching movies on the big flat screen in the dining room to reading or just going to bed.
My wife and I usually spent the end of the evening back in the cabin watching an episode of Game Of Thrones that I had downloaded to her iPad. She was asleep every time before the show ended.
The boat would get underway and cruise to what would be the next mornings dive site. Sadly, weather and winds did not permit us to journey to the Blue Hole this trip. But the diving was good and the pictures were too!

Today's Apocalypse Sign: iPod Monday
Okay another iPod Monday is here. Today's offering's are chock full of interesting things...to whit:
The first two songs also happen to be covered by my favorite young Jewish female drummer...Meytal Cohen! You have probably seen her featured here before. Her work on the skins continues to impress. If you want to see/hear more from her, check out youtube and search Meytal Cohen.
A very obscure band came up this week in Marcy Playground. Semi-one-hit wonder.
A country band?? Here on my site?? Well when it's the Dixie Chicks...yea!!! Natalie Maines has a voice that is way bigger than she is.
And then Trent Reznor, brilliant song writer...if you have ever heard Johnny Cash's cover of the NIN song Hurt right before he died, nuff said.
I hope you enjoy this musically diverse feast for this Monday...
1. Three Days Grace - I Hate Everything About You (I don't know if this is a song about co-dependence or just a love hate relationship, but the music is good! Meytal does her usual stellar job on the skins!)
2. Tool - Lateralus (what can I say, I love Tool. Maynard is a brilliant song writer and their music is phenomenal. This is a long song and a complicated drumming exercise and Meytal pulls it off effortlessly. My attention span isn't that long so I could never do this.)
3.Marcy Playground - Opium (quite frankly I bought this groups CD years ago because of the Sex and Candy song (how can you not like the lyric "like disco lemonade") . That and Poppies are two other songs from this quirky bands self-titled first album)
4. Dixie Chicks - Sin Wagon (these chicks can jam, are really easy on the eys, and how can you not like a song with the lyric "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition".)
5. Nine Inch Nails - The Wretched (not everybody's cup of tea but Trent Reznor's quote, "There's something strangely musical about noise" is an anchor for his sound. He is the only member listed for NIN.)

Today's Apocalypse Sign: Mid-Olympics Weekend Graphs...And Such
Before we get to the graphs this week, I need to make a few observations on the Olympics.
1. One of the coolest names for an Olympian - Ranomi Kromowidjojo
2. One of the hardest last names to grow up with (female Gold medal) - Poon
3. One of the hardest last names to grow up with (male Gold medal) - Tancock
4. Watching water polo, beach volley ball, and team volley ball is better at x60 speed on my DISH DVR
5. Womens beach volley on a hi-def TV is the equivalent of a soft-core porn Olympic event
6. Hardest looking sport I have no interest in watching - white-water kayaking

Today's Apocalypse Sign: iPod Monday For Olympics Week
Funny how things go...
Today was 105 and baking! So after work I come home to my hot as hell living room and...ride my execise bike for 30 minutes! Now I am sweating but I am back in the coldest room of the house. My wife keeps the back room at 68-degrees (not that it ever really gets there in the summer) and it is relatively cooler than any other room.
I am here of course to bring forth this weeks offering of iPod Monday.
1. Green Day - Hitchin' A Ride (one of the first songs I heard from this bands double platinum Nimrod CD. Time Of Your Life is an anthem for the ages. Love the American Idiot album!)
2. Peter Frampton - Do You Feel (Like We Do) - LIVE! (from one of the best selling albums of all time (Frampton Comes Alive) his best song.) It's a 14 minute concert staple so make some time later to enjoy it all.
3. Brian May - Driven By You (former Queen guitarist out on his own and jamming. Not many people I know have heard his solo music. Worth a listen.) Oh yeah...and how many rockers are astrophysicists! His history is rather fascinating so click the link if you don't know it.
4. Peter Gabriel - Digging In The Dirt (I absolutely love this song and listened to endlessly when it first came out. The ex-Genesis frontman created some amazing music on his own. Steam is one of my other favorites.) Guaranteed to be one of the weirder videos of its time.
5. Our Lady Peace - Clumsy (I like this song as much as their more famous Superman Is Dead. I still enjoy a good listen to their stuff from time to time.)
Bonus: Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life, Live) Excellent...will give you the chills...
